Ippa-do is an island with an area of 0.44 square km, located 70 km from Seoul, 40 km from Incheon, and 50 km from Suwon as the crow flies. Though it features connecting ridges, the elevation of the vertically elongated island is mostly below 50 meters.
Except for the gentle ridges to the east and west of the island's center and the mild slopes of the sand and pebble beach, the island is mostly characterized by steep slopes with a grade of at least 30%. Cliffs make up its northern and southern coastlines. The towering fantastic red rock formations in the wide West (Yellow) Sea, combined with ocean surf and circling seagulls, create a breathtaking sight that evokes a painted landscape. Along with nearby Gukhwa-do, this island is a popular destination for fishing devotees and summer vacationers.
