Ippado(Island) photo

Ippado geosite is composed of Paleozoic Devonian schist and quartzite, and is rich in typical large-scale folds and brittle deformation structures. The quartzite, which connects the islands to the north and south, remains as weathered residues and forms the main topography of the island. In particular, the “Hongam (reddish rock)”, the sixth of "the eight views of Hwaseong", is one of the most famous site in Ippado. The red color of the "Hongam" is due to the weathering of fault gouges developed in the quartzite with the partial weathering of quartzite.
